Giving a bit of free advertising!! Topic: Blogging, In General
Nominations for this years Homeschool Blog Awards start on October 13th (next Monday) and will last through the 24th. There are lots of categories this year -- 24 to be exact -- with one category being brand new: Best Homeschooling Method Blog.
I personally do not want to be nominated this year. I won last years Best Encourager Blog and I am VERY thankful for all of my friends who nominated me and then voted for me as I made a clean sweep of the category. However, there were several things that happened "back then" that are still painful to think about and I'd just rather not be part of the mix this year. So, if you were considering nominating me, please understand that I am totally grateful that you might think my homeschool posts are helpful, but please don't nominate me.
That being said, I DOwant to promote the homeschool blog awards because I know Heather and the other ladies put so much hard work into this event!! They deserve more kudos and pats on the back than we will ever be able to give them! I can't even imagine how much effort they put into the program and I think it is important we all share our appreciation for them and do our best to make the awards a huge success!
So, start looking around your favorite blogs. Make a few reminder notations when you think about it, and come Monday get those nominations in!! There are lots of really great homeschoolers out there who never get any notice. I'd like to see a few new folks win this year instead of the same ole crowd. Wouldn't that be awesome?!
Oh, and I will post on my blog who I nominate because usually you have to have at least two or three folks nominate you. If you don't have any particular favorites, maybe you can look at the ones I like and cast a vote for them to get their names in the running...but remember... none for me, please...
The SBC and the Economy Topic: Blogging, In General
Apparently the Southern Baptist Convention has been thinking about the economy for a while! The following resolution was written 30 years ago:
Resolution On Economic Responsibility June 1978
WHEREAS, Statements have been proposed to the Committee on Resolutions on a wide range of economics-oriented issues dealing with such matters as achieving adequate income levels, labor-management controversy, uniformity in social security participation, deficit spending by the Federal Government, and inflation, and
WHEREAS, This Convention in previous years has addressed similar issues and others that have called attention to the desirability and, in some cases, the necessity for economic improvement in the lives of citizens of this country, and
WHEREAS, The number and nature of such statements provide good evidence that contemporary economic conditions are more and more on the mind of the messengers to this Convention both as problems and opportunities, and
WHEREAS, We recognize particularly the dreadful consequences of many current economic ills, and
WHEREAS, The system of free enterprise has been successful and should be kept and refined,
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, That we communicate our concern through every appropriate means to the Congress and the President of the United States to be diligent in an effort to bring spending into a responsible and reasonable relationship to tax revenues so that all citizens may reap the benefits of a wise stewardship of resources, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Convention continue to provide positive leadership and Christian encouragement to those efforts designed to bring about a satisfactory economic livelihood among all people.
This second resolution on the economy was written in 1982. I wonder how often people within the convention consider resolutions after they are passed?! Are they just fleeting thoughts or are they followed through with perseverance and communication like they call for?
BTW, the Convention is in my hometown, Louisville, in 2009!!! I want to go!!!
I created these Coca Cola recipe cards a LONG time ago! We were still living in Okinawa at the time so probably at least 7 or 8 years ago. The bottle and the sign are my own drawings done with my mouse (whew, that's hard work!) and hand-colored with my graphics program. I did use a coke font to get the text right...LOL. The diner checked napkin was developed while playing around with the textures and stuff within my program. I figured maybe someone might like them. I have a shopping list and kitchen notepad as well and if you'd like those, then just email me at anderklan@yahoo.com and I'll email them to you. Please put coca cola freebies in the subject line or I may miss who you are. I get over 400 emails a day and the junk looking ones usually get tossed without being opened. I might miss ya if you don't add the subject line!
Just right click and save to your computer. All three cards are created on one large graphic so you just need to save one. Then print them out, preferably on card stock so they will last ya. Enjoy!
My husband has a 24 hour shift today. I drove him to work early so that I would have the van for church. I love being out and about just as the sun is rising and the fresh morning is beginning. I heard the birds singing as I took the dogs out and watched the squirrels climbing the trees. There was fog and as I drove Mike to work the rays of the sun were spilling forth through the trees like a prism. It was beautiful! All of creation is beautiful to look at! I love seeing God handiwork. Here is a song that hopefully blesses your day as you take a moment to look at the beauty of God's creation as well!
