Our Poor Little Emo Dog
Topic: Our Dogs

This is our youngest dog, Harley. He is a very sweet dog, a dauschund and terrier mix, and is getting close to 3 years old now. The poor guy is almost constantly getting new yeast infections in his ears and therefore is an emotional wreck, or emo for short, on most days. Especially lately. With all the moving stuff happening. I hate the "emo" name but our children giggle when they say it and hug him up tight to let him know he is loved. They aren't being mean.. just truthful.

He is our sweet cuddle-bug-all-snug-in-a-rug dog. He likes to lay.right.there.curled.up.as.close.as.possible when you are sleeping. He doesn't sleep in the bed with us but don't you dare fall asleep on the couch. I promise you won't be able to move because of his closeness when you wake up!

Lately he has started chewing his ears. Again. That means he has a yeast infection. Again. Poor puppy :-( This time I refuse to put the stinging yucky medicine in his ears if I can help it. I have spent time searching for au naturale remedies on the internet that don't have alcohol in them. I found one that has many good reviews on it and so thought we'd give it a try. The only problem this time is that, besides the ear infection, he has a greater amount of anxiety. He is scratching his head so bad and roaming around so much that I think he somehow senses things are changing. I figured since I was trying the au naturale herbal root for him I might as well try some calming "med" for medicine as well. I really hope he does well with it! I feel so bad for him but other than wrapping his paws up in bandages so he can't scratch and putting a cone on his head, I don't know what else to do. I may end up doing those things anyway!

We are taking our dogs with us, of course, but it did cross my mind once or twice how much easier it would be driving cross country without them. We have another older one, Grace, who is about 5 now. She is a german shepherd mix -- probably a small breed as she is short in stature. They both are just too much part of our family now. They have loved us unconditionally and with all their hearts. That's the great thing about dogs! They forgive and forget easier than our fellow humans do sometimes! They do great on road trips so it shouldn't be too bad! I guess I just worry they will have even more anxiety. Maybe I'll add the anxiety drops to both their waters for a week or two before we move!

If you are so inclined to add family pets to your prayer lists, please add Harley. He really is so sweet and loving most of the time, and pretty sorrowful right now. Just look at that sweet face...how could you not pray for him?! Thanks!!
